Grade 5/6

Prep and Year 6 Buddies!

Last week we had our first session back for the term with our Prep and Year 6 Buddies.

The Year 6s ventured into the prep room to work alongside them with their reading of The Snail and The Whale. Baxter did a fantastic job of reading the book to the 2 classes with support of the preps identifying their vocab words. We are looking forward to having more buddy sessions during this term due to this being our Year 6's final term of primary school!

Writing Day

Wednesday 2nd November

Over the past 4 weeks, the 5/6 students have been working on writing narratives. They have focused on a range of skills to improve their own work since the start of the year. Some of them have included word choices such as, using verbs and adverbs, as well as creating adverbial phrases. We have experimented with different noun types and adjectives that are used to enhance the readers enjoyment. We have put all these element together when recognizing a variety of clauses and sentence types. frequent feedback to students via peers and teachers has been a must for students to improve their work and the techniques they are using.

On Wednesday the 2nd of November, students will take part in a whole day of writing to start and finish a piece in one day. There will be a visual writing stimulus that each student will base their narrative on and implement the skills we have been learning. Discussions will be had on the Monday prior to this day to get students thinking of the elements they could include in their writing. They will be allowed to dress up with a link to their story. A note will be sent out with all the relevant information closer to the date.
