Principal's Notes

Dear families and friends,

Year 6 2023 Leadership Speeches

This morning, we had our future school leaders who were applying to be School Captains or Junior School Council Leaders make their speech to support their application. After the speeches were made, the Year 3/4/5/6 students and staff voted on who they thought would be our future school leaders. I was very impressed with their preparation and they way they spoke clearly. We will be announcing our 2023 student leaders at the Presentation Night on Thursday 15th December.

Swimming lessons

Today, we had our final lessons in at HILAC. The students have made lots of great progress with techniques. I was very impressed by their attitude and how they listened to their instructors.  At HILAC, the program that they follow is the Swim and Survive program. Swim and Survive is a comprehensive swimming and water safety initiative of Royal Life Saving that seeks to increase the swimming and water safety skills of all Australian children in order to prevent drowning and increase participation in safe aquatic activity. Some of the skills and areas that have been covered in their lessons are:

  • Entries and exits for a range of aquatic environments
  • Floating, rotation and orientation skills in various positions
  • Survival skills, techniques and strategies for emergency situations
  • Underwater and search skills
  • Swimming and survival strokes
  • Rescue methods for different situations
  • Hazards and personal safety around water
  • An understanding of personal aquatic abilities and limitations
  • Actions to get help and respond to an emergency including basic resuscitation

French lunch next Wednesday

Don't forget that Mrs McNaughton has planned a french themed lunch for the students next Wednesday. Students won't need their normal lunch but if they prefer to eat their own, they will still enjoy the French Café atmosphere.

Swimming Carnival

We look forward to seeing parents and families at our Swimming Carnival next Friday 9th December at HILAC at 12noon.  A reminder that students are required to be present as usual on Friday and will be bused into the pool in readiness for the Carnival.  Please get your permission form and transportation requirements into the office by Monday if possible.

School Council Meeting

A WebEx invitation will be sent out to councillors soon for a short meeting on Wednesday 7th December at 7pm.  Just a couple of things to discuss and the indicative budget will need to be discussed and passed.  The Agenda and accompanying papers will be emailed out on Monday.

Miss Thompson

This week, Miss Thompson has accepted an ongoing teaching position at Monivae College for 2023, where she will be teaching Humanities and English. We wish Miss Thompson all the very best in her move to teaching at a secondary level.

Colour Walk/Run

Remember to keep raising funds for the colour walk/run.  Ask your family and friends if they would like to make a donation to this great cause.  Donations can be sent in with students, dropped in at school or left at the Bridge Cafe.

MARC Van outstanding books

Mr McLachlan has given us a list of outstanding books that students are yet to return to the MARC Van.  This list will be given to students on Monday.  Please put some time aside on the weekend to have a look for these books.  Any books that are still outstanding at the end of the year, parents will incur a $15.00 fee for each book.

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine,

Lisa Ferrier
