Year 7 & Year 8

What's happening in the Learning Spaces?

Middle School Update

What a year it’s been with challenges and many highlights to reflect upon and many exciting opportunities to look forward to. This week however, it was wonderful to see our students shine at the Presentation Evening. It was a wonderful evening which I can’t thanks Mrs Burrow’s enough for, the time and effort she put in to make it such a wonderful display of student participation and achievement was amazing. Thanks also to Mrs Knight’s and her wonderful musicians for the entertainment and to all staff who were involved in the evening for making it a very successful community event.

End of Year Reports

The report provides students and parents information about their subject achievement, academic progress, learning behaviours and provides an understanding of their achievement in relation to the remainder of their year group both at school and across the state.

Whilst there are no parent/student/teacher interviews linked with these reports, they still provide an excellent opportunity for students to reflect on the academic progress that they have made this year and to identify areas to focus on for next year. Ideally, this would involve a discussion between students and their parents when they receive their report, which could then be revisited immediately before the start of the 2023 academic year. We all like to set New Year resolutions around this time and so reflecting on the report give students the opportunity to set academic resolutions for the new school year.

Booklists and Class Allocation

All students in Years 7 - 8 will be sent a copy of their class allocation for 2023 next week. The decision to place students in the different classes is done in consultation with the subject teachers. The allocation of elective subjects for Year 9s, however, is based upon the preferences that the students submitted in Term 3.

The 2023 Booklists have been emailed out to all parents and are purchased through Campion. Those orders lodged by Friday, 30 December will not be charged for delivery.

When the texts and supplies arrive for the new school year there is always a mixture of emotions amongst students. For some, it is a reminder that the holidays are winding up and that school will start again soon. For others, there is a sense of excitement of returning to school to continue their learning journey alongside their friends. Either way, it is a good practice for students and parents to sit down together and look through the books and explore the topics and concepts that lie ahead. Studies have shown that this simple activity can have a positive impact on both the student’s learning and any lingering nervousness they may have for the coming school year.

Uniform Expectations

Students commence Term 1 in full summer uniform. Students have growth spurts during the holidays so please check uniforms in advance to ensure any items needing to be replaced are done so before school commences. The Uniform Shop holiday opening times are published on the College Website. To meet the College’s high standards, any changes to hair, piercings, eye lashes, eyebrows and nails will need to be rectified before returning to school.

Let me take the opportunity to thank you for your support throughout the year. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year at Salvado Catholic College and I’m really looking forward to what we have planned for next year. Blessings to all families for a holy Christmas and a wonderful new year ahead.
