School Council

Dear Parents,

Happy new year to all in our community, and welcome back for another exciting year at Mackellar Primary School.  In February, we will be holding the last meeting of the 2022 school council, as March will mark the beginning of our new council for the 2023 school year. Last year's council did a remarkable job in running parent forums, assisting with major upgrades to the school, discussing and ratifying school policy and discussing and planning the progress of our next strategic plan.

Our plans this year are no less ambitious. We hope to survey parents regarding their thoughts about homework as we review and update our homework policy. We are also looking into making our school canteen as 'green' as possible inline with the government's recent ban on single use plastics such as knives, forks and plates, as we extend this to all areas of canteen operations. We will be working closely with the Community Engagement Committee as we aim to provide far more opportunities for parents to be involved in the school, its classes and programs, and of course assisting with our whole school concert to be held in term three of this year. Add to this our continued work on our school review, continuing the upgrade of our facilities, and continuing with policy formulation all makes for a busy but very productive year.

It will be exciting, however it does require one crucial ingredient - you! If you are interested in joining school council this year we have several vacancies to be filled.  Over the coming weeks further information will be sent out to parents including nomination forms.  The only prerequisite for parents to join school council is that they are keen to improve the lives and experiences of students at our school. We would love to see some new faces on council to share ideas, and work towards making Mackellar the best school it can be. Please consider being a part of council for this year.

Regards,
