Principal's Report

ANZAC Day Commemoration

Last Monday we gathered in the gym to remember those who have fought and fallen in wars past and present. The significance of ANZAC Day is one that we want our students to understand and respect as they grow.  It was terrific to see our students demonstrating Respect, as they all stood as we observed the 1-minute silence.  SRC representatives placed class made wreaths around the Australian flag, these have recently been displayed in our Administration entrance.

New Buildings and Playspace

It was great to start Term 2 with the opening of our new playground for students in Year 3-6 to use.  Our students have waited so patiently for this and the external basketball courts, but as the photos show, it was well and truly worth the wait.

Easter Celebrations

On the final day of last term we celebrated Easter with our Easter Bonnet Parade and Easter Raffle.  It was a terrific morning, I thank all of the families who supported these events.  I am thrilled to announce that the raffle donations and ticket sales raised $1844. This money will be discussed by our School Council as to the best ideas for spending this money.  If you do have ideas, please let one of our School Council members know.

School Athletics

Congratulations to our students listed below, who placed a 1st, 2nd or 3rd position at last term's House Athletics event.  These students now go on to compete at District level against other schools at Casey Fields on 21st June.  Go Clyde!

Junior Sports Day

On Thursday 18th May, we will be holding a Junior Sports morning at school.  Students in Foundation to Year 2 will complete a number of different rotations, practising a number of skills such as running, throwing, hurdles, team games etc.  Students are able to wear their House colours on the day, if you are unsure which house your child is in please contact your child's teacher.  Foundation  students will participate from 9am-10am.  Year 1 and 2 will participate from 10am-11.30am.

Attendance - Term 1

The following table highlights the amount of students in our school that have had at least 5, 10 or 20 days off school in Term 1.  These results include students who have been on family holidays or have had medical illnesses.   As per the Department of Education guidelines, any student who has had 20+ days off per year are defined as having a chronic absentee rate, affecting their social and academic learning.

This table indicates that the number of students who have had at least 5 days off at Clyde Primary School is higher than other schools in our local area and also higher than state average.  However, Clyde Primary School has had less days off than our network once we jump to 10 and 20 day absences, although we are still higher than state in these areas. This is something to be mindful about when allowing your children to take days off for things other than medical/illness or other significant reasons eg: bereavement.

Year 6 Big Day Out

This year, along with our Year 6 Graduation Ceremony,  Clyde Primary School is also  planning our first Year 6 ‘Big Day Out’, visiting Gumbuya World in December.  Over the next few months, our Year 6 students are planning some fundraising activities to help them cover the cost of the day.

This term we are planning the following fundraising activities for the whole school:

Wednesday 10th May: Slinky Apples - 50c per slinky apple

Friday 19th May: Free Dress Day

                         Gold coin donation

Monday 5th – Friday 16th June: Guess the lollies in the jar

                                                                50c per guess

Please help support our Year 6 students so they can celebrate their Primary School years and go out with a BANG!

Annual Student Survey

Each year the Department of Education runs a student survey for students in Years 4-6.

The Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) is an annual online student survey offered by the Department of Education which assists us to gain an understanding of students in Years 4-6 perceptions and experience of school.  The feedback provided in the survey results helps us to improve student engagement, wellbeing and teaching instruction.  Students will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to our school, their learning, peer relationships, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general.  Further information will be provided closer to the date.

Mother's Day Celebrations

As mentioned in our Compass message, we will be celebrating Mother’s Day on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th May with our Mother’s Day Stall and Mother’s Day Picnic.

Our Mother's Day Stall will take place on the Thursday 11th May. Each class will be allocated a time where they will be given the opportunity to shop for their special person. Gifts range from .50c- $5, please do not send large notes to the stall. Prices are set to cover costs only and the stall does not make a profit.

Our Mother’s Day Picnic will take place on Friday 12th May from 12:15-1:00pm.

Our special guests might like to bring a picnic lunch and find an available outdoor space within the school grounds to sit together as a family, we can arrange for siblings to sit together with their special guests.  If the weather is not suitable for an outdoor picnic, then we will move the event inside into classrooms.  If you intend to come to the picnic, please notify your classroom teacher through Compass or in person.

Education Week at Clyde Primary School

This year Education Week at Clyde Primary School will be held from Monday 15th May to Friday 19th May.  During the week there will be events for students which include a writing competition and buddy activities in classrooms.

On Tuesday 16th May from 9:00am until 10:00am families with be able to come into the classroom to experience an Open Morning.  This will consist of hands-on numeracy activities for you and your child to investigate.  If you have any further questions about the Education Week, please contact your child’s teacher.  We look forward to seeing many of our Clyde families participating in this event.
