Music

Year 7 Music classes have completed a Film/TV Music focus during the term and are currently learning about the Film Musical genre. Students have enjoyed performing keyboard, ukulele and guitar arrangements of A Million Dreams, Shallow and Sign of the Times. Students have consolidated their performance skills throughout the semester and many have become competent performers on keyboard.

Year 8 recently produced a podcast or video based on a selected band or musical performer. Students were able to collaborate in pairs with one student interviewing the other student who produced information on the band. Students were able to perform excerpts of music from the particular band/artist they were presenting.

Year 9 Music completed their final performance assessments earlier this term. Students have become more confident as performers, with many students performing for the first time as individuals in front of their peers as an audience. Students performed Rock/Pop repertoire in ensembles during the term including songs by Metallica, Nirvana and Nickelback.

Year 10 recently completed their last Performance Assessment. All students selected a great variety of repertoire including original compositions, theatre music, rock and instrumental styles of music. They have recently performed “ Dream On” by Aerosmith.

Year 12 Music have focused on composition during the term leading to their first Year 12 Composition Assessment Task. Students have experimented with Rock and Blues guitar techniques and drum kit techniques and have created original compositions notated using Sibelius. The composition process has been rewarding for students who have learnt how to apply expressive techniques to their compositions. Students are in the process of choosing and rehearsing their performance repertoire for the HSC in 2023 which we look forward to hearing next year.
