Principal's Message

Nurture.  Innovate.  Celebrate.

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families

WELCOME AND WELCOME BACK

Happy New Year to everyone! I hope everyone has had a great summer break with family and friends. All of the Maramba staff would like to give a big welcome back to our students and families for what is set to be an excellent year at Maramba. Of course, we would also like to give a very special welcome to all of our new students and their families who have joined our amazing school community this year!

We have had great first week of school for 2023. All of our students have enthusiastically welcomed the chance to connect and reconnect with their friends and teachers at school. And they have also made great connections with the new teachers who have joined Maramba this year.

Hearing their voices filling our corridors, classrooms and playgrounds with laughter, questions and conversation with big smiles on their faces has been amazing!

We are all very excited and looking forward to welcoming our youngest members of our school community next Tuesday when our 2023 Foundation students start school.

IT'S ALL IN THE NAME

As a Human Literacy School, we ensure all students feel a strong sense of belonging and connection to their classes and our wider school community. As a school we commence the important process of selecting a class name for their next class as early as from the December of the previous year; when the students meet their new teachers, whilst participating in our planned transition days.

As a new class, time is spent getting to know each other, building relationships and making plans for the next year. Brainstorming ideas, discussing and selecting a class name is a very important part of this special time. Inspiration is drawn from our school values and the Human Literacy SPICE Elements (Social, Physical, Intellectual, Cultural and Emotional) that are displayed in every classroom and referred to throughout the day.

A class name links the individuals within the class together, over the course of the year, through our rich leaning experiences and many human interactions as a group the students ‘grow’ into their class name and identity. What starts as a welcoming fun label for a group, ends up being a name that the students are extremely proud of as it represents all their personalities, skills, talents, experiences shared but above all the friendships made within the class.

Every child in the school knows their class name. We encourage families to ask their child to share their class name with you and the meaning behind it. It will spark conversation about their friends, their teachers and even their learning. An easy and positive way to find out about your child’s day at school!

OUR MARAMBA SCHOOL VALUES

Our school values are an integral part of who we are as a people and as a community. They are the things that we believe are important. Values have a major influence on a person's behaviour and attitude. Every day and every moment, they serve as broad guidelines in all situations in the choices we make and the actions we take. They are not just for our students but parents, carers, staff and our whole community!

In Term 1, we will be focusing on our school value of Relationships.

Relationships: We nurture our connection with others.

Maramba Primary School is part of the community. We want to be central to it so that everyone will feel as much a part of us as we are of them.

We strive to do this by:

  • working together to be at the heart of the community;
  • working cooperatively as a team;
  • sharing good practices with the local networks;
  • showing respect for differences and opinions;
  • be sensitive to your own and others emotions;
  • make a positive contribution to the local and global community.

Together we can do much more than we can individually and the strength of a school can be found in the connections and relationships we form as a community.

Take care and stay safe!

Kind regards,
