Spotlight on Year 1/2

A Spotlight on Year 1/2

Year 1 & 2 have made an effortless transition back to onsite schooling in term 4. We have enjoyed reuniting with our friends and easing into our days at school with a relaxing start. Students love the time to settle into the classroom in the morning with creative activities such as mindful colouring and construction. These 10 minutes have been valuable in reconnecting students with the classroom space and providing time to chat with their friends and teachers.

Reading

Year 1/2 have been busy revisiting important reading strategies such as predicting and summarising. Students have also worked hard to refine their reading skills playing literacy games.

Writing

Students have been exploring narrative writing. They have worked hard to plan, draft and edit their writing. Year 1/2 chose adjectives to bump up their writing and add detail, giving their audience clear visual images of the characters and the settings they imagined.

Numeracy

In Maths, Year 1/2 have gone crazy about fractions! Term 4 began with modelling, making, reading, writing AND comparing different fractions. We have also revisited the concept of place value. A sound understanding of place value (the value of each digit in a number) is a vital maths skill.

Inquiry

Year 1/2 have been exploring biological sciences! We started with thinking about what living things need to survive. Next, we observed living things found around our school. Then, we inquired about life-cycles and metamorphosis.
