From the Acting Principal

2020

This is the final newsletter for 2020. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of Mrs Foster and myself to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday with your family and friends.

For many, it will be an opportunity to finally catch up with loved ones after such a long year of restrictions, so there are bound to be lots of smiles.

We would like to wish our year 6 students the very best as they leave primary school and venture toward the continued opportunities secondary education.

We also wish any students and their families moving to new schools in 2020 all the best. For many of our families, this is the end of a long association with the school, to them, we wish you well for the future and thank you for your support and involvement at MPS.

SCHOOL CAPTAINS

Our special assembly on Tuesday morning included a reflection about what it was like to be a school captain in 2020 from captains Maleesha Dharmadasa and Otto Tame and vice captains, Annabel Gigliotti and Ben Gibbs. They then announced the new captains for 2020. We congratulate our new School Captains, Calvin Gillespie and Audrey Mills and Vice Captains, Bimal Seneviratne and Monako Bernabe. I would like to thank our 2020 Captains and all of the student leaders for their wonderful efforts over this changeable year.

GRADUATION

Tuesday night was a graduation celebration like none we have ever encountered before.

With last minute changes due to technical difficulties, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Parents were able to enjoy the ceremony and will receive a recording of the event.

It is a special time in a parent’s life when their child completes primary schooling and moves into the world of secondary education and for many of our families this year marks the end of their Murrumbeena PS journey.

We will be acknowledging Year 6 families leaving the school at our final assembly on Friday 18 December.

(Due to distancing only Year 6 parents are able to attend the assembly).

REPORTS AND 2020 TRANSITIONS TO NEW CLASSES

On Tuesday reports were posted to Compass and parents should have received from their child/children an envelope with their teacher for 2021. As stated in previous newsletters, class teachers have looked at friendships, a balance of boys and girls and each child’s academic progress. There are lots of pieces of information and observations that are taken into consideration when placing the children and we ask once again that you support our decisions. Your support of your child will be enhanced by receiving news of their placement with enthusiasm and encouragement. We look forward to your support in this matter.

CLASS PARTIES

On Thursday, all classes will hold an end of year party celebration.  This year students are NOT able to share food; therefore, we invite parents to help their child pack a fun ‘party lunchbox’ with their own special treats. Students may dress in casual clothes for the party.

FRIDAY-LAST DAY

The last day of the school year is Friday 18 December. School closes at 1:30pm.

There will be a whole school assembly in the hall (students and Year 6 parents only) from 12.45pm.

Parents may collect their students from outside the hall at 1:30pm.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS
