Year 7 Transition

The Year 7 students have finished their first cycle of school at Killester and have had many new experiences shared with their new friends and family.  Our new Year 7 space allows the students to form new connections with girls from different primary schools and has been a hub of activity at lunchtimes.  Wellbeing Wednesday was a great success as the girls had a chance to learn some skills from our Year 8 leaders and participate in some friendly games outside.  Students have volunteered to work on our Year 7 google classroom and worked to produce some beautiful birthday wishes and images for our noticeboard.  Lunchtime activities such as cards, jigsaws, drawing, board games have been available to the students. The Year 8 leaders have run a  KAHOOT activity which is always a favourite.  The students have access to a library of books which they can borrow and return when finished.  They also have some sporting equipment available to use at recess and lunchtime  On Friday lunchtimes, the students can participate in some singing and choir activities with Ms Garofalo and this has proven to be very popular.

Year 7 teachers and myself are encouraging the girls to leave their laptops in their lockers and have conversations with other students to get to know a wider range of people. Challenges such as new rooms, navigating the timetable, using SEQTA and learning all their new teachers names have been accepted and accomplished. Students are learning to become more resilient and independent each day as their confidence grows.  Our swimming carnival will be a great showcase of Year 7 talent as we have had many girls sign up for events. Congratulations to all the girls on their efforts so far.

Reflection by Ella-Ivy Smtih Year 7 St Rose

My transition to Killester was pretty comfortable this week and it was somewhat easy to adjust to the new learning environment, at first I was intimidated by the size of the school and the older year levels, but my homeroom teacher made sure we all knew what to do and made sure we weren't too nervous.  Going from online learning to getting back in the classroom was a bit hard to get used to at first but the routine is starting to really set in, the teachers make sure that we're on time and complete our work to keep us on track, which helps a lot!  The teachers assisted me a lot in my transition, apart from keeping us on track with our work they’ve helped me with my time management for classes and helped me be more responsible for my learning without overwhelming or stressing me out.  In conclusion, I'm happy with how my transition to year 7 went and I'm excited about what's to come.
