VCE/VCAL Results 2020
Aren (Cheska) Yalung
Killester College Dux 99.60
Killester College congratulates and respectfully acknowledges all students who worked hard to complete their Senior VCAL/VCE Certificates in 2020. Our local area is fortunate to have Catholic Schools who continue to provide wonderful educational opportunities for our community. This year was extremely challenging for students who completed their VCE/VCAL Certificates, demonstrating the importance of soft skills of resilience, flexibility, collaboration and person-centred care.
Whilst VCAL/VCE results are significant, an ATAR is only a reflection of a small moment in time and does not define a person. The Senior Pathways' Team hope is for students to be able to find and develop their passion and love of lifelong learning.
All of our families have seen the dedication and hard work their daughters have committed to their education. They would also know the sustained support offered by staff of Killester College. The College would like to acknowledge and thank parents/guardians for the support of their daughters education during periods of remote learning throughout the year.
The ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) is the measure used in offering places in Higher Education. Currently over 98% of graduating VCE students from Killester will undertake Higher Education next year. We congratulate our College Dux, Aren (Cheska) Yalung (pictured above), who achieved an ATAR Score of 99.60.
We further acknowledge that:
- 100% completion rate for VCE/VCAL
- 8.1% of students received an ATAR over 90 (see below for list)
- 32% of students received an ATAR over 80
- The median ATAR was 73 (state average 68.14)
- The median study score was 31
- Percentage of study scores of 40 and over 3.7% (see below for list)
Killester College would like to congratulate the 2020 cohort on these results! The 137 students Year 12 students of 2020 did so whilst demonstrating strength, kindliness, courage and being generous of heart.
The challenge is now presented to the 2021 Year 12 students to continue this work ethic in a collaborative manner in the spirit of the Kildare Education Ministries Core Values.

Killester College Dux Speech - Aren (Chesk) Yalung
Good afternoon everyone,
Firstly, many thanks are in order for my achievements could not be possible without the support of those around me. To my teachers who have nurtured my love for learning and believed in me in ways I never could myself; I thank you all for all your efforts and all your support and know that I will never forget it. To my friends, for some of my best memories. And of course to my mum and dad, Missy and Arkin, whose love is boundless, who have supported me in every endeavour and in every step, who believed I could do anything. I could not have done this without them. Thank you for everything and I love you guys so much.
Now I’m going to speak about something I am terrified of and that is change. I hate change. It makes me uncomfortable, it makes me scared. And I’m not going to pretend that it gets any easier for me as I transition to university. But in a world such as ours, change is necessary. We need change to address the racial inequality worldwide, we need change for the sake of our environment, we need change in so many facets of life and I am sure you yourself is aware of this. This change isn’t going to happen instantaneously, it’s not. It needs action, it needs people, it needs someone like you.
You might be sitting there thinking, what’s this got to do with me? What can I do? How can I solve world hunger?
You can start by changing the mindset that you are powerless, that you can’t do anything.
You can start by living your life with purpose. Live for something bigger than yourself and make your mark for good.
Change does not happen instantaneously. It takes time. It needs someone like yourself to create a spark and take a step into the right direction.
And so I leave you with a quote from Roald Dahl, “Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world.”
