Year 10 Painting and Printmaking

In the Year 10 elective, Painting and Printmaking, students have commenced the “My (still) Life” unit, where students will be painting a still life artwork using sentimental objects, in oil paint on canvas. Students have studied traditional and contemporary still life paintings focusing on the composition of the artworks. This preliminary work has prepared the students for their photoshoot. Students set up their objects against fabric and experimented with various compositions. Students took the photos indoors and outdoors.

Feedback of the unit by the students thus far:

I like the aspect of freedom in the assignment. That you get to choose specific and personal objects to paint and arrange them to your liking for the photo.  - Candice

I love how we got to use our own objects that meant something to us, rather than just painting something random. - Phoebe

It assisted us to explore the several different principles and elements of Art through taking photographs of our personal items which have a significant meaning and purpose. - Lis

On the 22nd February we will have artist, John Lawry, for an all day incursion assisting our students to start their oil painting. Photographs of the incursion will be in an article for the Newsletter in the coming weeks.
