Brewongle excursion

“I don’t want to go home”

“Can we just stay here?”

“Can we come here again?”

These are just some of the comments the IEC students made about their excursion to the Brewongle Environmental Education Centre.

After going through the safety talks and simple instructions given by the Brewongle staff, the students were eager to get started. Although some students who were unfamiliar with kayaking had some doubts about this activity, by the end of the session you couldn’t get them off the water, they loved it. Even those students who fell in the water laughing and giggling, had the best time. The walk back uphill seemed like a breeze after such a fun time on the water.

As they ate a yummy barbeque lunch, they also learnt about the local Darug people who have a great influence on Brewongle (which means camping place). The students learnt about the history, tools, weapons, and art of the local people. The students even had a chance to make and use ochre, learning different symbols and their meaning and applying it on their face and arms.

This excursion was a definite winner and we will be back very soon.

English

Students in 44 have composed a short film. The theme they have chosen is “Bullying”. The students have been learning about camera techniques to create special effects in their short film. Students have used camera shots and angles to effectively portray their message. The use of music and the use of colour depicted the characters’ mood and emotions.

Literacy and Numeracy Tests

Literacy and numeracy skills provide the critical foundation for other learning.

In Term 3 this year, Literacy and Numeracy tests were conducted across our Level 2 and Level 3 classes. Students were given exposure to Naplan and HSC Minimum Standards-type questions in an examination-like setting. These tests will continue to be implemented in 2021.

Congratulations to the following students who were awarded certificates and book prizes for their outstanding achievement in the Term 3 tests.
