Anti-Bullying Day

This term, the Senior Student Leadership Team identified a need for a strong focus on anti-bullying. As a team, the group decided to plan and facilitate a teaching program to be taught by them across the school on Friday of Week 8.

Rubaisha Abdullah and Brayden Kay, our Prefects led this valuable initiative, planning an engaging and meaningful lesson that could be easily differentiated for the varying needs of our diverse Evans community. Every single student in the school received the anti-bullying lesson from the IEC to the LAF unit to the Student Leaders' classmates in Year 12.

The feedback from staff and students was glowing and the leaders said that it felt awesome being teachers for a day. Students were engaged, offered personal stories, listened, talked and came out the other end more aware of the effects of bullying and the need for inclusion and kindness.

Well done to all of the leaders who led this awareness lesson and the teachers who assisted. Evans is looking forward to many more student-led and socially-minded initiatives in 2021.

Miss Kavanagh, Ms Espejel, Miss Taufique and Mr Murphy would like to congratulate the Student Leadership Team on their dedication, enthusiasm and participation in their first term of being leaders.

Brewongle Well-being Day

During this half of the term, the rest of the school got the opportunity to attend the Brewongle Environmental Education Centre and enjoy the beautiful scenery that the Hawkesbury River and surrounding forests has to offer. Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 as well as LAF and the IEC (see IEC News) were all able to experience and enjoy kayaking, roasting marshmallows over a campfire, team building activities and learning about the Darug land and culture. This well-being activity was well received by all students and majority of them have asked, "when can we come back?"
