Pursuing areas of interest through inquiry

This week we conducted our postponed information nights for Foundation and Year 9. This was a great opportunity to hear directly from our Year 9 Learning Mentors and our College Principal Sue Carroll about how our students are engaging in their inquiries and how this enables them to pursue their areas of interest. It was also a great opportunity for parents to hear about the future pathways for our students. It is so exciting to hear that our students will be fast tracking VCE units next year as we expand to Year 10. Exciting times ahead. Here is an example of an inquiry project being conducted by Year 9 student Alli Morgan:

For my term one 'Beauty is Subjective' inquiry I am making a cookbook. I am going to make some of the dishes at school and some at home. At school I have already made cheesecake and ricotta gnocchi. Everyone who tried them thought both were very yum. Amaya Moule has been helping me decide what recipes I make and helping me make them. The whole reason I am making a cookbook is that I find food beautiful and I also find countries beautiful so I am making food from different countries.

Exciting camp news!

Year 7 - Camp Howqua

In a few short weeks, at the beginning of term two, April 21 to 23, our Year 7s will be heading off on their school camp. Camp Howqua will be our destination and I am sure the students will enjoy a range of amazing and challenging activities. It will be a great opportunity for the students to strengthen and build new relationships. There will be more details to come shortly.

Year 9 - Beach Camp

I am so proud to be able to announce that we have finalised our preparations for our Year 9 camp. Last year I asked our students what type of camp they would like in 2021 . . . the overwhelming response was BEACH!!! So we are packing our surfboards and surf rods and heading to the beautiful Waratah Bay. In term three our students will be able to enjoy a range of new experiences and activities with the amazing Waratah Bay beach at their doorstep. I can’t wait. More details to come in due course.

Reminder about mobile phone usage

School of Innovation students are reminded that mobile phones are not permitted to be used during school hours. Mobile phones need to be placed in the student's locker on arrival at the college and must remain in their locker until the end of the school day.

Year 9s create impressive self-portraits

In Year 9 Visual Arts, students have created a detailed self-portrait in the style of Jason Thielke. Students have been learning how to apply contour lines, shapes and patterns to their portrait using fine liner. These linear markings have been applied to portray value and contrast within their work. Below are some fantastic examples of student artwork  from Sienna, Ava and Courtney.

Project Rockit to visit School of Innovation

Project Rockit, Australia's youth-driven movement against bullying, hate and prejudice, will visit St Anne's College to conduct a workshop with School of Innovation students on March 19, which is also the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence.

Project Rockit's  youth-led workshops have reached over 500,000 young people across the country, empowering students to stand up against bullying, instead of standing by. Their strengths-based workshops have a strong focus on setting up positive norms and providing young people with proactive strategies to keep themselves and others safe, connected and supported on and offline. They aim to raise students' social and self-awareness and create an environment where diversity is celebrated, so that every young person can thrive and reach their full potential.

Project Rockit sits on Facebook’s Global Safety Board, Twitter’s Global Trust and Safety Council and is certified by the Office of the eSafety Commissioner as a Trusted eSafety Provider.
