Levels 3 & 4

Level 3 Update
On Tuesday the 9th February the Level 3s took off bright and early for a local excursion to Jells Park. We went on a beautiful Nature Walk, taking in all of our surroundings and engaged our five senses in this beautiful environment. We did some independent reading, had a play on the playground (of course!), sat by the lake and even checked out the bird hide. We also did a scavenger hunt for a bit of fun. Our legs were so tired but we kept our energy and spirits up, even on the long walk back to school. We then used our adventure to write a recount full of interesting vocabulary and details! It was a great morning out, and we are looking forward to using the fantastic resource that is Jells Park again soon!
Level 4 Update
The Level 4 students have had a great start to the year, despite the circuit breaker lockdown. Everyone has approached their learning with a positive attitude and this is reflected in the way the students are working together both in and out of the classroom.
Last week students completed their first of many challenging tasks in maths. They needed to apply their problem solving and critical thinking skills to determine all possible answers to the question presented. We have been looking into place value and how the value of each digit in a number is determined by it’s place. Students enjoyed making and comparing numbers using a place value chart and M&Ms!
Students have been focusing on developing their reading stamina during literacy. We have visited the library and collaboratively created our own classroom library after completing a reading survey that identified our preferred genres. Students have been engaging in rich discussions about how authors use language to elicit emotions and visualisations as well as ask questions as they read, monitor their comprehension and share their thoughts on shared and independent texts.
We are all looking forward to our African Drumming incursion in the coming weeks as part of our explorations into the cultures, celebrations and countries of the Southern Hemisphere.
