School Wide Positive Behaviours

School Wide Positive Behaviour Focus:

This term we have a particular SWPB focus on 'I will assist in keeping the yard clean by putting my rubbish in the bin'.

As a staff we have noticed that with the increase of students this year, that the yard at times had displayed an increase in rubbish.

What is the main item of rubbish that we see?

Answer: Single use food packaging.

Single Use Plastic Packaging
Single Use Plastic Packaging
  • Australians throw away around 1.9 million tonnes of packaging each year
  • Make up a third of the litter we see on our streets and in our waterways – they are costly to clean up and difficult to recycle.
  • Are often used for only a few minutes but remain in the environment for a long time
  • Harm the environment – they break into microplastics which harm wildlife and contaminate our food and water.

At ECSC we want to reduce the amount of single use plastic packaging that we all use and keep our environment clean for all staff and students.

The good news is that students have begun helping us with this. I have had many students volunteer to clean the yard at recess and lunch. Students are receiving House Points for their efforts. They are also demonstrating our value of Respect All.

We can all help the ECSC School environment by reducing the amount of packaging we use for our food.
