From Alumni

This term we’ve hosted 3 alumni guests on campus, and can I just say, what a wonderful feeling it was!

I can’t quite describe just how exciting it was for me to be able to bring these generous people on to campus to share their post-school experiences and to offer some incredibly valuable advice to our students.

Elsie Vasquez ’12, and Danny Lysaght ‘03, spoke to our MYLNS students about literacy and numeracy skills in the workplace. They talked us through an average workday, and how they apply these skills at an everyday level.  We went a little deeper, and eventually ended up talking taxes, big life decisions, and redundancy.

Christina Said ’18, joined us for a chat with our Year 12 VCAL students. The focus was on how skills learned at school, specifically in VCAL, translate in the real world. Christina was insightful, inspiring, and entertaining. There were so many take-aways for our students.

The bigger message was the same for both sessions.  What you are doing now, in school, really is useful. Pay attention! Recognise your desires, set your goals, and work hard to achieve them.
