Literacy Development

Literacy is important across all subjects, at all levels. Earlier this term teachers were further professionally developed by Ms Fitzgerald (Literacy coach) on the ‘SASC Whole School Literacy Focus’. Teachers were then guided in Learning Sprints by facilitators (Mr Turner was mine) to utilise their understanding into practice.

Teachers have been trialing various strategies to improve students abilities. Understanding and frequently using subject Key Terms is essential to developing a student’s depth of knowledge. In my Visual Communication Design classes I trialed some of the strategies. I want to thank the students for their successful participation. 

They enthusiastically embraced adopting techniques to build their vocabulary. I especially wish to thank year 8J students who let me record and share their attempts with my Learning Sprint team: especially James-Luis Dupla and Thu Nguyen.
