The National Day of Action Against Bullying and  Violence

FRIDAY 19 MARCH 2021

On Friday 19 March 2021, the Year 12 VCAL team celebrated the National Day of Action Against Bullying at St Albans Secondary College. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness about the topic of violence and bullying, in order to decrease the statistics of sexual assault, cyber bullying, domestic violence, and more across Australia.

The VCAL group hosted a lunchtime event to address and acknowledge the concerns of our growing generation as bullying and violence has contributed to young people’s mental health and academic performance. It is critical to ensure each student feels safe, comfortable, and at ease within their school and community environment whether it’d be in the classroom, shopping strip, or at home. According to studies, over 60% of schools and nearly 2.4 million students took part in this movement.

The students hosted the event outside of the Performing Arts and held many enjoyable activities and provided food that appealed to many students, including the younger year levels. Some activities included an affirmation chain and pledge to eradicate Bullying and Violence board where students had the opportunity to write their name on a paper-cut hand to symbolise their support and encouragement of the movement.

The VCAL team also created a colourful empowerment chain and provided beverages and pizza, as well as having different year levels performing live music. Through this, it created a relaxing and good-feeling atmosphere for all staff and students to be a part of.
