Religious Education

Be strong, and let your heart take courage,

all you who hope in the Lord. Psalm 31:24

Dear Parents

As part of the Year 3/4 Religion Inquiry the students are exploring what makes a successful leader. They have engaged in dialogue both in small groups and as a whole class to create their top ten qualities for a successful leader. Year 3/4N came up with the following list.

The students have also been exploring the life of Moses as a faith leader and discussing the challenges and obstacles that he faced in his life. They have identified the values and beliefs that he possessed as a leader and how he showed faith in God.

They have begun exploring the leadership structure of the Church and interviewed Fr Lenin, our assistant priest, about his role as a religious leader in our parish community. They are currently creating a biography. Here are some of the things they have discovered about him.

As a child, Lenin loved to play cricket and chess.

Lenin's favourite food is fish. He grew up in Pallam, a beach town and both of his parents were fisher people.

Lenin wanted to be a priest because he was close to God. He was inspired to be a priest after meeting a priest in his town when he was in Grade Two. This priest helped to change where he lived, from a town where there were lots of fights, to a community.

Growing up, Lenin proved to be a good leader, incredible at maths and wanting to be inspirational and to make a difference in the world.

Father Lenin says, "being a priest challenges him to be better everyday". He wants to "empower and help young people".

I wonder what kind of leader you would like to be.

Take care
