Middle School Building:

We are back with a new  term and a new building has emerged from behind the temporary fencing.  We have a beautiful feature wall that faces the bus loop. The architect explained the imagery of the windows. If you look closely, the window on the left looks like the shape of a house.  Behind this window the Kids Kitchen is located. The window on the right looks like an open book and sheds light into the new library.

We are very excited as some of the students from middle years will be moving into the building today.  Finishing off a building takes time after all the heavy work has been completed.   The walkways around the building will have hand rails installed this week. There will be a set of steps leading from the walkways to the playgrounds but these are still a work in progress.

Tiger Turf has been installed from the edge of the building to meet the artificial turf in the playgrounds on both sides.  We re-located the bike track in Playground 2 so it is further away from the edge of the building. We will have a slight colour variation in the turf for a while until it blends in with the sand on top.

The new building prompted a review of the fire services on this site. After many holes have been dug and underground tunneling installed water pipes, the school now has a superior fire service. There are five new hydrants around the school as well a fire hose on the Landy Road side of the Administration building. Mulch has been spread around the areas dug up around the hydrants.

The new security system for the building and the school CCTV cameras were installed over the holidays and VicSmart Router was installed to provide internet access to rooms. The interactive projectors were installed yesterday and all the electrical work is now complete.

Holiday works

As you know holidays provide safe time for works to be completed without the students around. Room 19 had a new door and door jamb installed. The new reception bulk head was painted and is looking good. The primary corridor had water leaks which have now been fully repaired. The staff room leaks have been patched up and we are now in the process of repairing the plaster, ceiling and the carpet.

Playgrounds 3, 4 & 5 fitted with artificial turf were groomed and sand spread. Playground 5 has heavy use so it required an additional treatment to clear it of dirt that has run off the garden after heavy rain. This will prevent the turf becoming slippery. The eaves on the toilet Block in the Primary wing were replaced as they were composed of asbestos containing materials.

Tradesmen like to start work early so during the holidays Corinne, Michelle and Richard volunteered to take turns to open up the school so "tradies" could start anytime  from 7 a.m.

This was a "labour of love" to be there that early during the holidays. Thank you team for your early morning rises.
