I would like to extend thanks to the JSA Community for making me feel so welcome.

I have come to JSA from Roxburgh College and have spent the last eight years leading Science, Literacy and Numeracy and teaching across the Maths and Science Key Learning Areas.

My passion is Numeracy and I am looking forward to working with the teachers on creating an engaging, evidence based, hands on Maths curriculum. I am excited to continue the work that has been developed in the Literacy curriculum.

Semester 1 Reports

Student Reports are used in all Victorian government schools to report student achievements during and at the conclusion of the year; they aim to provide families with a clear picture of their child’s progress.   This is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the students’ learning and the progress they have made throughout the semester.  Whilst part of Term 2 consisted of a combination of remote and flexible learning, teachers have written reports which are based on formal and informal conversations with families, work samples as well as formal and informal assessments.

All teaching staff will complete the Abilities Based Learning and Education Support (ABLES) assessment in Term 3 this year; teachers then utilise this initial assessment to identify an appropriate learning level within the Victorian Curriculum. Teachers will then use a variety of assessment methods and tools to gather more explicit and specific information about the student’s learning.

All Victorian school reports typically use a five-point scale, which enables teachers to provide a greater level of detail to parents about their child’s achievement and progress. The progression points used within the student reports are carefully developed to ensure that the focus is on the progress individual students have made specific to their own individualised goals and not in comparison to other students.   Unfortunately due to COVID-19 this part of the school report has been omitted this year.

The Victorian Curriculum is structured as a single developmental learning continuum and is organised by levels not years of schooling. All students progress along the learning continuum at their own rate and from their own starting point; students are taught at the level that suits their needs.

We recommend that families and carers use the semester one student report during Student Support Group (SSG) meetings to celebrate progress and identify skills and knowledge that may be practiced and reinforced at home.

Further information about the Victorian Curriculum can be found online at victoriancurriculum.vcaa.vic.edu.au/ or by contacting the school.

Parents and carers should have received a copy of their child's report via the parent/carer email on the 26th June to share and celebrate their progress and success with their families.

If you haven't received your email copy of your child's report please contact the school and we will resolve this issue for you.

Student Support Group Meetings

Student Support Group meetings will be held via telephone or Webex between 27th July and 13th August, 2020.

Professional Learning Support Plans ( PLSP )

Teachers are engaging a series of assessment practices this term to identify targeted goals for your child, and you will have an opportunity during SSG's to discuss PLSP goals for semester two. Teachers are currently moderating student work in order to get an accurate picture of the skills and knowledge of the students as they move along the curriculum continuum.

The PLSP plan will be sent to families and carers by email at the end of term three.
