JSA School Houses Name Vote

Last week, the student representative council met and put together 4 possible suggestions for names for our 4 houses.

SSG meetings and Student Voice

Last week, a letter went home to all parents / carers regarding participation in the up and coming Student Support Group (SSG) meetings. As you know, these are really important meetings so that families, students and teachers can celebrate the work has been achieved, and collectively plan for the next steps of learning.  One of our school goals this year is to improve student voice and agency in learning. We encourage all students to be a part of these meetings as it is important that students have an opportunity to express their views and actively share their like/dislikes and preferences in their learning.

As mentioned in the letter, there are 3 stages of student engagement that we encourage you to consider ahead of the SSG include:

  • Stage 1: Students attend and teachers will support students to show parents the work they have done.
  • Stage 2: Students will share and reflect on their work samples (using communication prompts as required)
  • Stage 3: Students discuss their Personalised Learning Support Plan goals, progress and share their opinion about their own development.

We are also aware that under the current climate, these meetings will be again held via Webex online meeting, or via telephone. There are some clear instructions included with the letter to assist with using the Webex online meeting platform, please contact your teacher if you have any further questions about this. I look forward to hearing about the success of these meetings and the input from students into their learning. Please return your form to the school as soon as possible to book your meeting time.

JSA Expected Behaviours Curriculum

Beginning this term, the Student Engagement Team are distributing an explicit curriculum for teachers to teach their students related to the JSA Expected Behaviours. The reason the team are supporting this is so to assist all students to increase their understanding of the expected behaviours for our school and make it as positive and safe place for learning to take place. For weeks 1 & 2 this term, teachers have been given curriculum related to the schools expectations for listening. Some questions they will look at will be;

When is it easy to listen?
When is it not easy to listen?
How do you feel when somebody listens to you?

We look forward to seeing the benefits of this curriculum amongst students and across the school.
