Not your average Principals' report

What a difference a term makes...

There's not much we can say that hasn't already been said, but thank you once again to our wonderful community. Together we made remote learning, and transitioning back to onsite learning an incredibly successful one for our students. We survived an experience that none of us could have imagined in our lives and our students and staff are stronger for it.

New connections with families have been formed and strengthened, new ways of learning have been explored, tested to the extreme and adapted, and we all have some stories to tell our grandchildren one day...

Staff have been working hard on the transition back to onsite learning, supporting families and students, as well as updating assessments to identify students’ academic needs. We have met as a staff to look at what we have gained from remote learning, what we have valued, and what has had a positive impact on student learning. We are looking at ways we can incorporate these things into our existing practices at Great Ryrie.

As one fellow principal put it 'never waste a good crisis'. This has been a great opportunity for us as a staff to stop and reflect on what we value, what we identify as critical to student success and make changes where needed. We have been forced to look at education in a different way, and whilst the school has always been progressive in its approach to education, a shakeup never hurts.

Thank you again to our community for the support it has shown to those families struggling at this time. There are many stories out there that most of us never hear and we know some families are doing it tough right now. We encourage you to speak to your classroom teachers around support for your children or contact Hollie regarding financial supports we may be able to provide.

Keep looking out for each other, remember to stay safe, this isn't over yet.

Enjoy the break

Return to normal Pick-up and Drop off times

In Term 3, we will see the return of the regular commencement and dismissal times.

  • For all students the morning bell will ring at 8:55 am with the learning commencing at 9:00 am.
  • For all students dismissal will be at 3:30pm
  • The classrooms will continue to be open from 8:45am to enable children to go straight to their rooms.
  • Teachers will continue to be at the gates to greet the children and help with dismissal in the afternoon.
  • Please note: Teachers will be on duty from 8:45 am
  • Due to the increase in traffic we encourage parents to be patient and to abide by the street signage to ensure the safety of our students. The parking inspectors have been highly visible and warning drivers about making u-turns across the double lines and double parking.
  • The morning kiss and drop will continue to run until further notice in the bottom car park. We ask that parents stay in their cars and have students' bags in the car ready for a quick exit.
  • Please continue to make arrangements with your children in regards to the gate they will meet you at in the afternoon.

The Department of Education has not updated information in regards to parents being on-site. This means that parents will still not be able to be on the school grounds. As we have all found out recently,  this could change quickly so stay tuned for further communication in the holiday break through Compass.

Even though the doors remain closed please call the office if you require any assistance.
