SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS
Ahhh, 2020….. You have kept us on our toes!!
Our annual Senior School Information night on the 12th August for the students of 2021, was run via TEAMS for the very first time! Parent and student engagement was definitely increased this year because of the format, and it showed us how FLEXIBLE we really can be! I think last Wednesday night can be reflected in the contents of my favourite slide: (attached)
Because, whichever pathway you choose to take with your education – VCE or VCAL - these are the skills which I believe will be with you for life!
And even in Remote and Flexible Learning (2.0), we continue to see students thriving, taking feedback, looking for opportunities & being resilient, all the while developing their skills and knowledge. I see our teachers do this each day too. Being creative, maintaining engagement and finding new ways to bring learning to you in your homes. It is inspiring.
This year, as you probably know, the Victorian Government has announced measures for VCE students of 2020 (those studying Units 3&4), to help both their mental health and also their final results. Each student will be individually assessed in light of any adverse effects and impacts of coronavirus, and this will be reflected in their final ATAR rankings. In a normal year, students are assessed for special consideration on a case by case basis, but this year our school will provide the VCAA with data on every student about their learning prior to remote learning. And, students’ GAT results will also be an important factor in 2020. (More information about the GAT to come)
This assessment for consideration will be SEPARATE to a students’ SEAS applications (for the purpose of Higher Education access) through VTAC – which Mrs Matthews is currently working through with each of our Year 12s.
Therefore a student’s final VCE result and ATAR rank will take into account not only their performance in an exam – “but their courage & commitment in the face of huge adversity.” (Premier Daniel Andrews)
Our Term Three course counselling schedule continues at KSC, so please take note of the following dates:
- Tuesday 18th August – all day Year 11 (2021) course counselling & Student 360’s Times for Year 10 students are in the TEAMs page

We continue to remain ‘agile’ in our teaching & learning, and impressed by our Korumburra community and its support; particularly for those in their final years of school! Please do not hesitate to call the senior school to talk to myself or any of the coordinators and staff for help or advice. #staysafe
