SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

School Closure

Little did we know that when we left school on Friday, 31st July, that we would not be allowed back on the school site for 10 days. Although challenging dealing with the overwhelmed DHHS COVID response system, many positives came out of this situation. As far as we are aware, no one else from the school has tested positive for COVID. This should give us confidence that there was no outbreak at the school. I would also like to acknowledge the amazing work that our cleaners have done in ensuring that our school is adhering to the highest hygiene standards. Our staff’s pre-emptive wearing of masks may have also helped. The student who tested positive did all the right things, and this would have greatly contributed to containing any contagion.

The State-wide announcement regarding remote learning came during our school closure.  The fact that our staff and students were able to transition to some form of remote learning during the middle of a school closure, and maintain some level of continuity of learning, is a credit to everyone involved.

John and I would especially like to thank our community for their support during this time. We were overwhelmed with good wishes and messages of support. We felt incredibly lucky to work in the Korumburra community.

Remote Learning

Most parents and guardians would have seen our letter to the community. Remote Learning 2.0 looks very similar to remote learning 1.0 EXCEPT that we have now introduced WIN time. This is a time that students DO NOT need to log in to Microsoft Teams but should continue on with their learning for that subject. This should allow those students that like routine, to continue with their timetable as normal, and for those students who like to work later in the day, some opportunity to be flexible with this time. We are hoping this also alleviates pressure on families – the feedback from last time was that Remote Learning was highly demanding on parents.

Thank you

I would like to extend my thanks to Mr Wilson for undertaking the role of Acting Principal during the first two-three weeks of term. We are lucky in our school community to have someone of Mr Wilson’s calibre as part of our leadership team.

Our Year 12s

There is no doubt that the current environment is most challenging for our Year 12 students. I want to reinforce our commitment to these students that we will do everything we can to ensure they are supported. We can do this!
