ACC Sport & House News

ACC Updates

With the current stage 3 restrictions, it is of no surprise that ALL ACC EVENTS/SPORT have been cancelled for TERM 3.This will be very disappointing news for students, as it is for staff. The ACC Executive will meet later in the term to look at commencing term 4 sport as scheduled.

House Sport

We are considering a number of ways we can keep house sport operating during this remote time. Next week we hope to have a number of links where students can access familiar Mazenod activities and follow some of our regular presenters. For example, stretching and breathing classes with Sarah and MMA with David are being considered. We will also start up a running challenge with prizes for each year level. Please keep an eye on MazCom.

Physical Education Classes

As some students in Years 11 and 12 will be involved in physical education classes, the college executive will permit a student to wear their sports uniform to school on the days the student has a physical education class.   For many students, this will mean wearing their sports uniform to school twice a week - sports day and physical education lesson day. Homeroom teachers will monitor this to ensure students are wearing the correct uniform each day.

State Volleyball Championships and National Titles

The college received notification this week that the State Volleyball Championships and State Representative programs have been cancelled for this year. The National Titles on the Gold Coast are still to be confirmed later in the year once logistics have been organised and the tournament can be run safely. Volleyball training will not be taking place during remote learning. All students will be notified once the training starts again.

Oblate Cricket

As with the National Volleyball Titles, no decision has been made yet on whether the Oblate Cricket will run this year. The implications for interstate trips will be very complicated and we will work through all the associated issues. Other times of the year will be explored, such as running the tournament in early 2021.  We will pass on all the relevant information once a formal decision has been agreed to.

College Gym

Students have been asking when they can get back into the gym and start lifting weights again. Unfortunately, due to current state guidelines, the gym is closed to all students after school. Due to the confined space and cleaning, it is impossible for us to let the gym open safely. We will follow state protocols and look to possibly opening the gym after August 19th. We thank all the students for their patience with this.

One On One Coaching

AFL Coach & Former Mazenod Teacher Mr Damian Carroll

In these uncertain times with the structure of junior football under review, former Mazenod staff member and current Hawthorn Assistant coach Mr Damian Carroll is available for individual tuition and guidance for a fee. The opportunity to get advice from someone at the elite level is invaluable and could make a huge difference in helping guide your football future. The program can involve some 1 on 1 coaching and skill sessions. If you are interested in taking up this opportunity please contact me at the college with your details and I will pass them onto Damian. Email Mr Connolly at: aconnolly@mazenod.vic.edu.au
