Principal's Report - Mr Pitt

Dear Parents/ Carers

EDUCATION WEEK IN REVIEW

Last week we celebrated Education Week – ‘Learning Together’. It was a busy week for staff and students with something on every day! Thank you to the whole Fairvale learning community for taking part in all the activities. On Monday everyone attended the K-2 or 3-6 Athletics Carnival. On Tuesday and Wednesday classes attended the science incursion learning more about marine life and our oceans. On Thursday the SRC hosted Green Day and grades participated in literacy and numeracy activities. The SRC raised $298 for the school – congratulations! We ended the week launching our ‘Caught you being FAIR’ board. The wet weather didn’t dampen our celebrations. It takes groups of teachers a lot of time to organise these special events and I thank Miss Mahendra and her team, Miss Boog and her team, Mrs Tannous, Mr Ly and Miss Cassady and their teams and Mrs Callaway and her team – a great job all round!  We hope you enjoyed all the pics we shared with you throughout the week. We’ve included some here just in case you missed it.

PARACHUTING AROUND THE SCHOOL WITH MR PITT

K NEW ZEALAND: Last Friday I visited KN during literacy time. I spoke to lots of children about their learning; including new words they know, being a confident reader, engaging in class devices to unjumbling sentences and learning together at various work stations. I also visited the hair salon and had a lovely cut and colour. I am sure we have some future hairdressers in KN!

5/6 BELGIUM: Last Friday I also visited 5/6B. Children have been researching about a specific charity or individual person. I was able to speak to all groups about their charity as well as sharing some interesting facts. From what I saw, it was clear the children were working towards achieving the success criteria. Although the two visits were very different this week, I could have stayed much longer in both classrooms.  Check out some photos in this edition of the newsletter.

PARENT/ TEACHER PHONE INTERVIEWS

As you know we are unable to hold parent/ teacher interviews this year. We believe it is important that we provide the community with some form of communication and the most appropriate model to use is to hold parent/ teacher phone interviews. If you would like to speak to your child’s teacher you will need to complete the online booking form (information was sent home on Monday). Be mindful that your child’s teacher has up to 15 or more parents to speak to during the afternoon/ evening. The phone interview is strictly 10 minutes. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide translators for these interviews due to current guidelines as well the huge task it would take to manage off-site .  We ask that you seek the support of a family member, friend or even your child to assist with translations.

STAY HOME IF YOU ARE SICK

The most important advice I can give is that if you are sick, please stay home from school. This is the message that has been given to all staff members as well. All adults on site will be healthy and ready to work and we expect the same for our children and their families. If they are unwell at school you or your nominated emergency contact will need to collect them immediately. Please make sure your contact details are up to date. Check out the link below.
