MYSTERY READER HAS RETURNED AND WE WOULD LOVE YOU TO BE ONE OF OUR

MYSTERY READERS NEXT TERM!!!

WE ARE CALLING ON PARENTS, CARERS, GRANDPARENTS

Mystery Reader is an event the children look forward to every year and with our current COVID restrictions it has looked a little different this year. Mystery Reader commenced this Wednesday in the Juniors. Our Mystery readers surprised the Junior children by sharing some clues about themselves and an amazing book online. A big, big thank you to the parents who participated this week and have also sent in their videos for next term.

We hope to continue Mystery Reader next Term in both the Juniors and Seniors as we look forward to celebrating our SFS Reading Festival and Book Week in Term 4.  Mystery Reader will begin online for the Seniors next term and join the Juniors in the Learning space as ‘Virtual’ guests! We would really love it if some of our Senior school families got involved – an older siblings are welcome to join in!!!

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO…………………

If you would like to be a part of Mystery Reader for next term please send your Video and 5 clues about yourself so that children can try to guess who the Mystery Reader is to Elena at:  pfapresident@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au

Learning Space 2 Juniors - Holiday Ads!

Over the last week, LS2 juniors in Clinic 5/6 were given a task to convince the teachers to take a holiday at their families favourite destinations once travelling is allowed.

The children worked really hard in making sure that their ad was so convincing, using sequencing connectives, strong persuasive language and engaging the reader to really consider their holiday destination by adding a self reflecting question.

The destination that was chosen was : QUEENSLAND by Layla Mazid.

Have a read and let’s see which holiday ad persuaded you.

Enjoy!!

SENIOR ITALIAN

Senior Italian this term has focussed on TIME.

Time is considered a part of functional language and essential to our everyday lives. Students have focussed on asking the questions related to Time like CHE ORA SONO? or CHE ORA E’? (which both mean what time is it?) and have learnt about how to answer the question using o’clock, half past and digital time.

They also looked at vocabulary associated with time like parts of the day morning (mattina), afternoon (pomeriggio), evening (sera) and night.

Here is a collection of some of our work this term.

JUNIOR ITALIAN

During this term as part of the ELLA (Early Learning Lanuages Australia Program)

the Junior students have been learning about shapes in Italian.

They have identified shapes in their environment and also in our world. They have looked at the Italian flag and flags of the world and the shapes within them.

They have learnt words and phrases about shapes. They have also learnt a new Buongiorno song.

Here is a snapshot of some of the great learning.

PE NEWS

SFS JUNIORS AND SENIORS KEEPING ACTIVE

Even though today was fun footy day, we still had lots of other activities happening at the homes of SFS students. I have included some photos of student activities. Unfortunately videos continue to be an issue, so if you just send me photos from now on that would be greatly appreciated.

Below are some various ways that can assist students and their families to continue to remain active during our stage 4 lockdown. We hope you will take advantage of the various online programs being offered during the school holidays. Remember we would love to see any photos of students and families participating in the programs. Please send photos only to gfaiola@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au

AUSKICK AT HOME

Students can also get involved in footy home activities provided by NAB AFL. All you need to do is google NAB AFL Auskick at Home and lots of videos come up that students can watch and then practise the skills covered.

Another way for our students to keep active through activities provided by School Sport Victoria. Would love to see some photos of the Virtual Track and Field.

School Sport Victoria have just posted a Virtual Track and Field to encourage students to become active. The link for these activities is: https://ssv.vic.edu.au/Pages/SSVVirtualTrackandField.aspx?_sm_au_=iVVtvsnt3M26fQ372QFQvK0q44FRJ

Parents please ensure you are aware and agree with any challenge your child participates in and that it keeps to the Stage 4 restrictions.

A NEW INITIATIVE FROM BADMINTON VICTORIA

Badminton Victoria are launching a video series of beginner badminton skills for children called Shuttle Time At Home (Full media release here:  https://www.badmintonvic.com.au/post/introducing-shuttle-time-at-home)

An episode will be released every week from Friday 18th September (there will be five (5) episodes altogether), with each video formatted as a mini-lesson for kids to follow along. The series is being produced with primary-school-aged children in mind and could assist your child to keep active during lockdown. A Trailer Video promoting the initiative is available on the social media channels here:

Stay safe and have a great holiday!!

Hopefully we will see Juniors Week 2 of Tem 4 and the Seniors soon after.
