Grade 2 Home Learning Snapshot
Term 3 Week 2
Dear Parents,
Thank you for a successful first week of Home Learning. We have had positive feedback and are pleased that our updated schedule of Google Meets seems to be working for families.
We have a new reading digital platform available for students to use, PM eCollection. Teachers have contacted parents with individual student login details. Attached here is a user guide for parents and students also.
Please contact your class teacher if you need any supporting accessing any of our digital platforms.
This week we are continuing to look at non-fiction information texts. Our learning intention is I can use the features of a non-fiction book to help me find out information. Features that students will refer to include: contents page, index, headings, captions, pictures, written text and glossary.
Students will practise this skill each day as they choose their reading options: read to self, read to someone or listen to reading. In the literacy choices they will also choose work on writing once per week and will complete Guided Reading once per fortnight.
Students will write down their question and answer each day.
In writing this week, children are learning to write simple and compound sentences. They will come to understand that a compound sentence links two simple sentences. We will focus on using the connective 'and'. They are also learning how to use commas when listing facts in a sentence.
We hope the children are enjoying using their Home Journal keepsake. Aside from our set tasks, having the opportunity to draw and write what they choose is also very important. We know many children were proud to show their Home Learning Journal when they returned to school last term.
Every Monday we will start the week with a number skills game. Students should continue to practise this game every day before their Maths task. This week we are playing a game called Target 100.
We will be finishing off our focus on statistics and data representation on Tuesday. On Wednesday wehttps://app.pmecollection.com.au/bookshelf
This week in unit of inquiry we are beginning to find out about how animals are classified. Students will explore each of the families of scientific classification and record facts about each grouping.
We encourage families to find a balance of indoor and outdoor time, breaks, exercise and working time. Please contact your class teacher if you have any concerns about your student's wellbeing at this time.
Some useful online resources are:
Go Noodle - has short dance clips, mindfulness, yoga and some printable activities
Smiling Mind - this is a free app that offers short mindfulness activities for different age groups. Parents will need to sign up and select the program for 7-9 year olds.
Cosmic Kids Yoga on Youtube
Art for Kids Hub on Youtube - guided drawing lessons.
Here are some ideas for interesting non-screen activities. We will be including these as optional activities each day.
