PRINCIPAL'S NEWS

Mrs Caroline Galea

Dear Parents,

Recently, an incident between parents was brought to our attention. One afternoon at school pick up, an adult in a rather large truck tried to go down McColl street after picking up two of our children. As there were cars on both sides of McColl street, this truck was unable to drive through. This caused chaos, as other parents also became blocked. To my horror, another car decided the best way around this was to drive along the footpath.

I know that everyone is trying to leave at the same time, but some common sense really needs to prevail.  Shouting, and abusing parents that are legally parked, is not going to help the situation, in fact it will only make matters worse.

As parents, you are modelling behaviours to your children all the time. If you become abusive, then it is normal for a child in frustrating situations to mimic your behaviour.

We are trying to teach our students to be good citizens of the world and the behaviour displayed on this particular afternoon, is the complete opposite of what we are trying to achieve.

Please try and think about your actions and the way that you are interacting with one another, particularly in front of such impressionable children.  We cannot prevent the lack of parking after school, however with a bit of patience everyone will get home safely.

Please Note: in the spirit of doing the right thing, if you or your family were the ones involved in driving the truck, could you please make contact with the school, as you inadvertedly hit another car.

Rapid Antigen Tests

The Victorian Government will continue to provide rapid antigen tests (RATs) for use by students and staff for the remainder of Term 2.

Schools will continue to be provided with the RAT tests.

However, from Monday 23 May 2022, it is recommended that RATs are used by students and staff when symptomatic. RATs are also required to be used for five days if a student or staff member is a close contact of a confirmed case and they are attending or working at a school.

From Monday 23 May 2022, we do not recommend that non-symptomatic students or staff conduct RATs twice a week in mainstream schools and five days a week in special schools.  Students and staff must continue to notify the Department of Health and their school if they return a positive RAT result.

Year 4 Camp

This week, our Year 4 camp are going to Sovereign Hill for an overnight camp. They will be spending two days and one night at the camp site. This opportunity provides the children with the experience of being away from home for an evening. The children go back in time and experience a gold mining town as it was back in the 1800's.

Garden

This week, our garden group planted herbs in our new garden boxes along McColl St. Other plants were also purchased and these have also been planted to make our grounds as nice as possible. Thank you to Marla for obtaining a $500 grant from the Victorian School Garden Program in 2021.

Assembly

We now have assembly back on in the Hall every Monday at 2:30pm. We welcome all parents.

Nude Food Day

It has been brought to our attention that there is confusion over Nude Food Day. Every Thursday is Nude Food Day. Remember, one 'nude lunchbox' equals one point for your House.

Thank you to all the parents that either volunteered their time on the day or came along to support our sausage sizzle. We raised over $800. A very special thank you to Mariella for cooking donuts all day.
