Big Science Competition

On Wednesday, we had 30 students from years 7-10 participating in this event. The Big Science Competition is an international competition that challenges critical thinking and problem solving skills. The Big Science Competition is a 50 minute, multiple choice competition testing science knowledge, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Questions are set in real-life, contemporary contexts, making them relatable (and interesting)! Students will receive their results and certificates later in the year.

Problem solving challenge in Positive Futures

During Positive Futures last week, 12A students were tasked with designing a bridge using only LEGO bricks and two plastic cups, which could support a mass of up to 1kg. The students were required to collaborate and use creativity to build different prototypes which they tested and redesigned to hold a greater weight. As an extension of this task, students were then asked to build the highest stable tower using any equipment on their desks.

STEM Coding Club

The STEM Coding Club met for the first time this week, and learnt how to code using Python. The students were guided in their code by Darell H (Year 9), who’s enthusiastic and informative approach ensured that students were engaged and well supported. The focus for our session this week was making a calculator. Coding Club meets on Wednesday 3:20-4:15pm in the Library.
