Library Author Visit 2022

In August, we celebrate the Children’s Book Council of Australia, (CBCA) Book Week.

This year we have booked the author Danielle Binks to come and visit our school and talk to our Year 7 students.

Danielle Binks is a Melbourne-based writer.

In 2017, she edited and contributed to Begin, End, Begin, an anthology of new Australian young adult writing inspired by the #LoveOzYA movement, which won the ABIA Book of the Year for Older Children (Ages 13+).

Her books include:

  • The Year the Maps Changed: Danielle’s bestselling middle-grade novel, this book was a 2021 CBCA Notable Book.
  • Her first solo YA novel, The Monster of Her Age, released in 2021, won the Young Adult category of the 2022 Indie Book Awards.

Danielle’s books will be available to borrow from the Library soon, for interested students to read before the talk!

You can read more about Danielle on her website.

School ID card collection

The new 2022 School ID Cards were delivered to students during their Positive Futures sessions last week, Tuesday 26 April.

Any students that were absent can come to collect their cards from the Library.

It is important that student have their ID cards for late sign-ins, exams, printing, book borrowing and more. The old 2021 ID cards will no longer work in the school systems.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge Update

EDSC students have now read a whopping 1,656 books in this year’s Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge!

We’ve had 158 different student readers enter, but it’s not too late for other students to start their reading journey.

Well done to Atrin F of 7H, Sahar S of 7J, Jenica F of 8I and Martha B of 9J, who have both recently reached their 15 book milestone. All students who read 15 books or more will join our end-of-year Challenge celebration and receive a certificate from the Victorian Premier.

Congratulations to Keira M of 7C who won a $10 canteen voucher in this fortnight’s random draw, just by entering their books into the Google Form on our Challenge webpage

This year we are counting the books Year 7 to 10 students, and all school staff, read from January 31 to September 2.

Students can read ANY books they like (excluding children’s picture books). We are awarding lots of individual prizes to students throughout the year to acknowledge reading efforts.

All details and the latest leaderboard are on our EDSC VPRC webpage.
