Students Trek in

Bush Orienteering Championships

The Victorian Schools Orienteering Championships occur throughout the year in Victoria. These events involve students competing against each other in local parks and forests. Typically in each event between 100 and 900 students (from 5 to 15 schools) participate.

The Victorian Secondary School Championships were held on Friday 13 May in Macedon. Competing against students from a range of other secondary schools, we congratulate Samantha Love (9.21), Alannah Moulton (9.21) and James Love (12.10) for representing the College. We also thank Sarah Love, parent, for her support and promotion of the activity.

Bush Orienteering is more than just a trail run, involving moving off the trail into the bush. There is no marked route on the ground; the aim is to reach pre-determined control points using a map for navigation. The key is concentration and the ability to make quick decisions while moving as fast as you can.

If any present or previous Duke of Ed students, who have done orienteering in class, are interested in this pursuit, please speak to Mr Fox.
