Walk Safely to School Day

WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON FRIDAY 20 MAY 2022.

Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. Although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine. You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:

• Walking with them the whole way to school.

• If you have to drive, park the car a block or two away from the school and walk the rest of the way.

Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic. Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for Friday 20 May 2022!

COVID Update

We are pleased that there have been changes around the COVID guidelines affecting schools. We ask that all families please take note of the following –

Rapid Antigen Testing - We have been advised that the surveillance testing for students will continue up until Friday 20th May. Students were sent home with a new packet of tests this week to allow for this surveillance testing to occur. It is highly recommended that students test twice a week. Students that have had COVID in the last 12 weeks are exempt from this testing. Please notify the school if a positive result is obtained.

COVID Positive - If students test positive to COVID they must isolate for 7 days. They may return after the 7 days isolation as long as they are symptom free.

Household Contacts - Where a student is a household contact of a positive case (that is, they have spent more than four hours with someone who has COVID-19 inside a house, accommodation, or care facility) they must inform the school. Household and household-like contacts are no longer required to quarantine as long as they take additional safety measures in the 7 days that would have been their quarantine period. Safety measures required include –

  • notify the school if returning during their 7 day period
  • undertake daily rapid antigen testing five times within the 7 days
  • wear a face covering when indoors (if aged 8 years and above or unless they have a valid exemption)
  • If symptomatic, all students must stay/return home, take a rapid antigen test, or get a PCR test if a rapid antigen testing kit unavailable.

Mask Wearing - Students and staff are no longer required to wear masks at school unless they are a household contact.

Vaccination Status - Any staff or visitors performing work on school grounds (either paid or volunteer) must show evidence of 3 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. Parents, carers and other adult visitors are no longer required to show evidence of two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine if not performing work or volunteering at the school.

Assemblies - We are pleased to announce that our assemblies will be held every Friday at 2:45pm in the Multi Purpose Room. Families are welcome to come along to the assemblies
