Can you believe that Week 6 of Term 2 is almost over?  The blast from the Antarctic has made its presence known, with no power still too many homes and the students eagerly  donning beanies and warm jackets.

Please encourage all students to wear their school jumper and their jackets to school. With the number of sniffles on the increase in our students, we would like to keep them as happy and healthy as possible.  Less sick days means greater learning opportunities!

Special mention to our Global Citizens...

Special mention for the Global Citizens Team for their project submission to me today.

It makes my heart sing to hear these students identify and plan for how they can help our school community to help our planet.... I know..pretty cryptic right? You will just have to be patient to see what these future leaders bring us.

Sacrament of First Eucharist:

Parents of age appropriate children have received a letter from Miss Martin regarding First Eucharist/Holy Communion Sacrament.

The Eucharist serves as an act of spiritual thanks and is considered the most important sacrament of Catholic life. The ceremony consists of blessing and consuming bread and wine, which embody the blood and body of Christ. I encourage all of our Catholic families to contact the school ASAP to talk with our REC Miss Martin about including their child/ren in the Sacramental schedule at school.

Extended Leave time for students:

From time to time parent/caregivers may choose to have their children absent for an extended time during the school term.  When this occurs parents are required to make a formal application to the Principal.  This application must also include doctors certificates/letters if absence is due to illness and treatment, or travel itinerary if for family holiday.

Parents are also reminded that under Part 2, 4(b) of the NSW Education Act (1990) that the education of a child is primarily the responsibility of the child's parents.  Parents should therefore be aware that there should not be the expectation from the parent/carer that the school provide work for the student during the time of extended leave.

Teachers at St Mary of the Angels, with enough advance notice, are more than happy to provide access to online lessons as per their school program,  some additional learning tasks for Literacy and Numeracy and students will be asked to complete a journal as a record of their absence, but it is not expected for teachers to provide a full distance/remote learning situation.

Parents are reminded of the implications to student academic and social progress

note when applying for extended leave for your child to be absent during the school term

School supervision and late arrival

A reminder, due to child safety reasons the front gates of the school are closed as close to 9.00am as office duties allow each morning. If your child arrives after these gates have been closed and need to enter school though the front office they must be accompanied and signed in by a parent/carer as they are then considered late. Thanking you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
