Preps
The Prep students have been exploring dance and how to express their feelings and emotions through movement. The students have responded to multimedia dance performances and used picture storybooks to spark their curiosity to create their own group performances to share with their class. The students have explored music through the text “The Gruffalo”, students have created soundscapes with untuned percussion instruments and connected this to the settings and characters in the story.
Junior Learning Community
The Junior Learning Community have combined dance and music by exploring body percussion and how this can be utilised to choreograph dances. Students have shown the school values of Be Brilliant and challenged themselves through participating in multimedia body percussion videos. The Junior students have worked collaboratively to create their own body percussion choreography in small groups to share with their class.
Middle Learning Community
The Middle Learning Community have continued on with their sensory advertisements and have built on from this by exploring the senses through coregulation games. They have identified how they learn best and what supports their senses in their learning environment. The students have been working together on a class video and shown brilliance!
Senior Learning Community
The Senior Learning Community have been exploring features of podcasts and live radio reports. Students have participated in scripted and improvised learning experiences
based around Wollert Primary School, which have included the Diversity Dash, the canteen opening, the experience of school camp and the highlights of the year. The Senior students have shown brilliance in using their creativity!
Prep and Junior Learning Communities
Over the past few weeks in Physical Education, the Prep Learning Community have been participating in PMP (Perceptual Motor Program). These Perceptual Motor Program activities allow students to practice balance, hand-eye coordination and they also support listening skills, learning to follow instructions and directional/ positional language. PMP assists the development of children's gross motor skills and therefore assists with the development of fine motor skills, essential in the learning of reading and writing.
The Junior Learning Community have been learning how to Forehand Strike, you would have seen your child showing off their technique on Seesaw this month. For each of their sessions they participate in small group activities to practice the skill and have lots of fun while doing it!
Middle and Senior Learning Communities
Over the past few weeks in Physical Education, the Middle and Senior Leaning Communities have been participating in a Tennis Clinic run by coach Ben from Top Seed Tennis in Epping. Ben has been teaching them the various skills of the sport and playing lots of fun games along the way. The last session of the clinic will take place at the Epping Tennis Club, the students will have the opportunity to visit the club and get a real taste for the game. We have been really spoilt this year with many clubs and organisations reaching out wanting to involve our students in all of these wonderful sports!
In Dig2Dine, we have continued to explore cuisines of the world and leart about different countries and their cultures. The Prep and the Junior students have learnt about Australia, China, Japan, Spain, Italy, India and Mexico.
The students have had the opportunity build their knife safety skills practising safe knife handling and cutting techniques using our child safe plastic knives. They were able to dice tomatoes when making Salsa for their Mexican Tacos, cutting the fresh Italian Pasta into strips and cutting the mushrooms to create their Vegetarian Chinese Dumplings.
Students also enjoyed the tactile experience of kneading and rolling out dough when making Indian Roti and fresh Italian pasta, as well as assembling Chinese dumplings.
Tasting our creations remains one of the most exciting parts of the Dig2Dine lesson and this month they have enjoyed Roti, Dumplings and Salsa and Guacamole on Nachos.
Our Middle and Senior students enjoyed learning about the Chinese tradition of 'Chinese New Year' making comparisons to celebrations they celebrate with their family. Then then enjoyed making Vegetarian Dumplings, Mango Pudding and Fortune Cake. Through these recipes they practiced safe knife handling skills using our kid safe plastic knives to cut and prepare the dumpling fillings, the technique of folding and assembling the Dumplings and steaming the Fortune Cakes.
We learnt about the country India by discussing and comparing schooling, population, transport, sports and foods, and our Indian students enjoyed sharing their culture and traditions with their peers. The students continued to practices their skill of following recipes and identifying the correct measurements and equipment to use. They successfully made delicious Dahl, Roti and Coconut Rice Pudding.
