Senior Report (5/6)
Wominjeka from the GUMNUT COMMUNITY - Tom, Tien, Emma & Jackie
On Friday the 4th of November, Wollert Primary School hosted its first ever Colour Run, The Diversity Dash!
Our Senior Students had a fantastic day celebrating our diverse cohort and learning about others. Students and teachers shared stories of their families cultural celebrations. We are so proud of our students for sharing this information as we as a community learnt so much from each other.
The final session of the day was spent running through different stations of our colour run! Students were coloured from head to toe and spread JOY throughout the school. Our Senior Students showed such KINDNESS and BRILLIANCE by assisting younger students through parts of the colour run.
We are so proud of the leadership that our cohort displayed during the event.
We CAN'T WAIT for next years Diversity Day and Colour Run celebrations!
On November 11th students in the Senior Learning Community took part in the school wide activities for Remembrance Day.
Our students prepared a video of the picture story book "Lest We Forget". Our students recorded their own voiceovers for the book for the rest of the school to enjoy.
Our students also prepared their own contribution to the schools wreath, paper plates that were creatively turned into Poppy flowers. Each of our students included a quote on their wreath contribution after conducting research into the history or Remembrance day.
The Senior Students at Wollert Primary School have been travelling back in time during their literacy lessons!
Both classes have been reading Nadia Wheatley & Donna Rawlins' classic Australian picture book that takes the reader back in time throughout Australian history.
Our students have been so CURIOUS, asking many questions about the cultural, social and historical references in the book. Students have also been able to uncover links between time and synthesise their understanding of certain elements of the story from studying the rich symbolism of the text.
My Place has also got an accompanying ABC Television series which the students have been watching during our lunch eating time. Our seniors have made rich connections from text to text and have extended their personal connections to elements of Australian history.
We will continue to head back in time (through the 1800's!) throughout December!
A further literacy focus for our Senior students has been reading and researching Dreamtime stories.
Students have been reading and watching different Indigenous Creation stories during our literacy lessons, making connections between the text genre as well as finding messages and morals.
We have read through stories such as Tiddalick the Frog, How the Birds Got Their Colours and the Rainbow Serpent. Students have also spent time in these sessions researching, reading and reviewing other Dreamtime stories that they have found online.
Can you believe it is almost time for our Year 6 students to graduate!?
Our Year 6 students have been excitedly preparing for their Graduation celebrations which will take place on December the 8th.
These students have been preparing their Year 6 memory books which are filled with happy memories of their journey through Primary School.
Our Year 6's memory books also include messages to people who have influenced and inspired them along their journey towards young adulthood. All students have written about future ambitions and goals which fills our hearts with JOY!
We have such fantastic young leaders within our classrooms who have such bright futures ahead of them.
We cannot wait to celebrate their successes as Wollert Primary School students and we hope that the future holds each of their hopes and dreams.
We will miss them dearly!
