WHY WEEKENDS SHOULD BE LONGER

By Aaron Rajit

Imagine a world in which no matter how hard the students try and work, it doesn’t stop. Day after day, they come to school and suffer through an unreasonably long work schedule. Finally, after a long time of tiredness and dread it all comes to an end. The weekends are here!! Only there’s a problem. They are only two days long. I believe that weekends are simply too short. With a 3-day weekend, students would be able to accomplish more things, get homework done more frequently, would be less tired and have an improved mental wellbeing.

Firstly, 3-day weekends would allow more time to study and get home work completed. Homework is an important part of every students lives. Though just because of this, doesn’t mean it is an easy task to complete. Many people have a packed and tight schedule, so not only do they have less time to do homework, but they have more homework on top of what they already suffer from. Due to weekends only being 2 days long, it is a huge grind to get it all done, which leaves students tired when they go back to school on Monday. This happens every week, and students just get more tired, week after week. There is no proper break until they crack and don’t finish their work. The current system puts too much pressure and stress on the poor children. This is why weekends should be 3 days long.

Furthermore, 3-day weekends would allow more time for students to rest. Kids, children already work 6.5 hours, which is only an hour less than a full-time job. Plus, if you add in the homework, children work as much as many adults. Because of this, kids often feel tired and have a lack of sleep. This can lead to fatal blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, complete heart failure, stroke and shortens their life expectancy when they grow up. It does not make sense to risk students’ lives on a flimsy decision that can be changed so easily. Lack of sleep can also make it difficult to concentrate in school, which leads to more stress and anxiety. This makes the students even more fatigued. The 2-day weekend system is deeply flawed and erroneous, as it makes poor children feel and experience pressure and anxiety. It wastes the education that kids are blessed to have. This is why we need to act against 2-day weekend and abolish this unfair, unnecessary rule.

Finally, 3-day weekends give children more time to relax and pursue their dreams. Learning new things reduces stress and improves cognitive functions. On Monday, students would come back to school ready to learn to their fullest capability. Additionally I believe that kids should have freedom to pursue their dreams and life.  Imagine how one would feel if they wanted to do what they really loved, however, dreadful work hours prevented and forced them to give up on what they really wanted in life. A school day is only 1 hour shorter than a full-time job so children don’t get very long to express themselves and chase their goals. If there was a 3-day weekend children would be allowed to finally learn and thrive in things that they previously couldn’t. This is why 3-day weekends would benefit students and help them thrive.

In conclusion, 3-day weekends would help students in a plethora of ways, including providing hours for homework, sleep, and time to learn  new and exciting things that they want to learn.
