Our Experiences in Education Week

Written by Lexie, Isobel, Weihan and Josh

This week is Education Week. Education Week is a week to celebrate the strengths and achievements of Victoria’s government education sector. It is an opportunity for all schools to commemorate the past, celebrate the present, and imagine the future of education in Victoria.

At school, we have been celebrating Education Week by holding assemblies for every year level. Every student has received a certificate for showing our school values, Determination, Pride and Success. Parents have had opportunities to share their experiences of when they were in school and many of these examples have been really different to how schooling works now.

Each day, we have been running Education Week Assemblies with Mrs. Vesdrevanis and Ms. Epskamp where we hand out awards for each year level. Education Week also allows parents to see how their child or children, and their child’s classmates are doing their work and reflect on how different their school environment was to ours. Many of our student’s parents submitted their stories of how their school was different to ours, and their stories will be featured in the newsletter.

Every day for the week so far, we have been doing assemblies about Education Week for all of the different year levels. The parents have also submitted a variety of stories from their own personal school life. It has been intriguing to read so many stories and at the assembly’s, we have shared an assortment of stories that were all so wonderful. Besides all of that, we have also been handing out Determination, Pride and Success awards to different people in the year levels. The stories that we don't present at the assemblies will be posted in the newsletter.

This week is Education Week and it has been extremely eventful. The school captains, Mrs. Vesdrevanis and Ms. Epskamp all worked together to present awards at assemblies in the gymnasium. There were many different interpretations and experiences shared by multiple parents in the community and it was captivating to hear from parents and make comparisons from back then to now. Running the assemblies feels refreshing and having the opportunity to get involved is even more pleasant. The students of DPS received awards for showing school values and every single award was deserved. Well done to all of the students at DPS!
