BUILDING CHARACTER AND RESILIENCE

SACRIFICE

"Someday you will find out that there is far more happiness in another's

happiness than in your own." - Honore de Balzac

To sacrifice is to give something up because we value something else more.  It means considering other people's feelings and wellbeing above our own and often means choosing to do something we don't really enjoy in order to benefit another person, or our future self.

Sacrifice may be difficult today, but it teaches long term thinking and to consider the bigger picture.  Resisting unhealthy food, gossip or negative habits feels hard, but you end up a healthier person for it - physically, emotionally and spiritually.  Sacrificing also helps you to build discipline and strength of mind - helpful in fitness, resolving conflict, accepting change and overcoming adversity.  Ultimately, we cannot love others without making sacrifices and putting their needs above our own comforts.

What is something small I can do today to make someone else's life easier?
