Getting the Most out of Open House

We spend so much time thinking and planning for Back to School Night, since it's one of the first times our families will see our classrooms and have the opportunity to experience their child's day. Open House, on the other hand, sometimes feels more like an after thought. At this point in the, it feels like our students and families already know us and our grade level.

But Open House is such a great opportunity to ramp up our home to school connections, especially when they are designed in such a way as to really make families feel welcome as part of our school community.

There are so many great ideas for how to make Open House a positive event for all of our stakeholders. One way is be strategic about ways to involve our students in planning the vent. What could they teach their parents during open house about their learning? What activities do they enjoy doing during their day that they would like their parents to have a chance to try? By giving our students a voice in this event, we are creating a strong positive experience for students, families, and staff!
