From the Acting Principal...
Acting Principal Role
I would like to join the School Council, Staff, Students and Parents in welcoming Ms Natalie Rose to Ormond Primary School. Ms Rose will be commencing her role as Acting Principal here at Ormond Primary School on Monday 28th August 2017.
Staffing
We welcome back Michael Pannam, Sandra Johnson, Brodie Thomson and Lina Sidiropoulos who have been on leave, we know they had a restful and enjoyable break.
The following staff are currently on leave or planning to take their leave between now and the end of term; Jade Lipson, Margot Hudson, Helene Ioannou, Chris Cheverton and Felicity Hall-Shulman.
I have been advised by the Department that our IT technician Alexx Verdichizzi has gained a promotion within the department and will be leaving us at the end of August. Kim Stewart, John Davis and I will be interviewing applicants.
Congratulations to Jade Lipson who married Joshua Zajonc last Thursday. We wish them both a lifetime of happiness.
We congratulate Ms Bianca Borsi on her successful appointment to the Educational Support team for Students with Disabilities at Ormond Primary School. Bianca has been working with us on a casual basis in this capacity for the past 6 months.
Naplan
The National Assessment Program- Literacy and Numeracy school and Year 3 & Year 5 student reports were distributed today. Naplan data will be discussed with staff and the school’s performance will be shared with School Council. If you did not receive your child’s individual Naplan report please contact your child’s class teacher.
Year 3 Camp
The Year 3 students will be attending their first school camp tomorrow and are looking forward to this with much anticipation. The staff who are attending this camp are: Julie Nield, Josh Kamoen, Stephanie Halliday, Jacinda Hocking, Tristan Kopitz, two student teachers who are currently on placement at OPS and myself.
New Year 5 and 6 Playground
On Monday we had teacher time on the newly installed playground much to the student’s amusement. The students in Year 5 and 6 were given their opportunity to play and enjoy this new space when the fences came down at 10.30 this morning.
I would like to acknowledge the resourcefulness and dedication of the Facilities Committee in sourcing the appropriate equipment, the students for their input into the designs and the Parent Community for their tireless fundraising activities which made this project possible.
Professional Learning
The school’s two Leading Teachers, Felicity Hall-Shulman and Sally Berryman will be attending the Victorian Principals Conference “Inspiring Teams Through Positive Leadership”,
17th & 18th August. On 22nd August Sally and I will be attending the Bayside Principal Forum to discuss the Teaching of Literacy.
School Tours
The final School Tour for Term 3 will be conducted on Monday 4th September at 9.30am.
I would like to remind families with children who will be commencing school in 2018 that we are taking enrolments now. Could all current parents who have not as yet completed and lodged enrolment forms for 2018 Prep students please see Brodie for an enrolment form as soon as possible so planning can begin. If you are aware that your child/children will not be attending OPS in 2018 could you please inform the Office in writing.
Parent Opinion Survey 2017
A reminder to parents who were selected to participate in the Parent Opinion Survey that their responses are required by Sunday 27th August. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.
