From the Principal

Week 7

We are definitely living through a difficult period. Social distancing, a term we learned only a couple of weeks ago, has had an impact on our school. It is with great disappointment that we have had to cancel a number of events. The World’s Greatest Shave is one such casualty. Every year, this event attracts hundreds of students and staff in the Quadrangle to witness the commitment of individuals to helping through personal sacrifice. This year, we can’t do that. However, the resilience of our community shines through. Students are filming the shaving and colouring of their hair and uploading it on social media. Over $12,000 has been raised for the Leukaemia Foundation. If you would like to donate, here is the link to our team page:

COVID-19 may throw obstacles in our way, but Killara finds ways to stay connected, to care, and to make a difference. I am very proud of our school community.

There are more frequent communications to families at present, and I ask that you consider turning on “push notifications” for Compass. Compass is our communication platform, and will be the first place to go for up-to-date information. The official Killara High School Facebook page is also useful.

Teachers are working hard to ensure the high quality educational delivery that you expect from your school. Our school is operational, and the focus is on the classrooms in Koola Avenue. There are various measures in place designed to maintain the safety of everyone, which I have outlined in an email that was sent home today. The Department of Education also has a dedicated page on their website:

Finally, it is International Day of Happiness today. Their slogan was never more relevant:

Keep Calm. Stay Wise. Be Kind.
