Student Leadership

Student Leaders

Our Student Leaders have already been busy within the school community growing in their leadership skills and actively pursuing opportunities to use these skills. After completing our leadership workshops earlier in the year they are now working on small projects based around the student oath we say each week at assembly.

I am Proud to be Australian: Students have delivered a creative presentation on something they love about Australia or makes them proud to be Australian. We had beach holidays, multiculturalism, AFL, sports in general, the stark, diverse contrast of Australian holiday destinations, our famous landmarks and beaches and nature reserves.

I will honour the flag: In the coming weeks, students will be teaching our Level 2 & 3 students about the Australian and Aboriginal flags.

Obey the Laws: Later in the year we have a visit planned from a community liaison Police officer to discuss the role of the police in maintaining the law and policing cyber bullying.

Care for the Environment: The Environment captains helped run our Clean Up Australia Day last Friday.

Respect the Community: Over the holidays, students will be interviewing and then reporting on a friend or family member who plays an active role in serving the community as a volunteer or via their chosen vocation.

Clean Up Australia Day

On Friday 2 March, Jells Park Primary participated in the annual Clean Up Australia Day activities. Students cleaned up several areas including the school grounds, the surrounding school fences, Jells Park walkway (beside Caulfield Grammar) and Jells Park (Ferntree Gully Rd entrance at the end of Mary Avenue). On the day our Environment Captains collected all the rubbish from each year level and weighed it before disposing of it. The total rubbish collected was 21kg. Level 3 collected 7kg and Level 5 collected 8kg, which was the most. Thank you everyone for helping clean up our local community.

Performing Arts Captains

Have been busy choosing new songs for the before school, recess and lunchtime bell music. Keep an ear out for the new collection over the coming weeks.

House Captains

The House Captains have a busy time approaching with the Level 4-6 House Sports on Wednesday 14 March. As well as teaching their House members the team chants they will also be playing an active role setting up and leading on the sports day.

Top 10 Leadership Traits

During our workshops earlier in the year, we discussed the most important leadership traits. Obviously, this can be different for each person, but some consistency comes through when you get a group together. After first identifying our most important trait personally, we then refined the list through a series of groups growing in size until finally our full leadership group of 32 came up with the final Top 10 list. The list in no particular order is:

Honest, Patient, Respectful, Responsible, Resilient, Co-operative, Creative, Encouraging, Purposeful, and Brave

These are all traits that we will be working on and developing throughout the year.
