Being an Inclusive School in a Diverse Culture.
One of the things that I love about Jells Park PS is that we have such a diverse cultural background and that is something that I think we should really embrace and celebrate. Being a very inclusive school is a high priority of Jells Park PS and a particular focus of the Education Department.
A good 'inclusive' school is defined as one that "recognises and responds to the diverse needs of their students, accomodating both different rates and styles of learning and ensuring quality education to all." Whilst inclusive beliefs, policies and practices specifically address the needs of students with a disability, they are equally beneficial for students with different cultural, religious, social, emotional and financial backgrounds. Schools that are inclusive adopt the belief that where ever possible students should learn together regardless of differences.
At Jells Park PS we started work on developing our inclusive culture with an introductory project in the classroom called "Every Face has a Place". See some of the works in the attached pictures.
Sharing Food
At Jells Park PS we strongly encourage students to NOT share food, whether from their lunch boxes or purchases from the canteen. This is a safety concern. With students that have allergies it is important that they are protected from foods that could cause them harm. Students sharing food might inadvertantly cause a medical issue.
I would ask parents to be mindful of this when packing lunches, and remind their children not to share their food with other students, either out of their lunch box or from purchases at the canteen.
Thank you.
