Lest we forget

ANZAC Day Commemoration

In the last week of Term One,  Cecil Hills High School students conducted an ANZAC Day Commemoration ceremony. They paid respect to those men and women who have served and died in war in the service of their country.

The ceremony was a solemn occasion, with all students showing great respect for the sacrifice made by our ex-servicemen and women. It was conducted by Year 9 students Dyani Anderson, Angela Gonzales, Julia Misitano and Vyvan Tran. The ceremony included an official wreath-laying ceremony by the St John Cadets of Cecil Hills High School, represented by Nikola Sekularac and Kosta Tsoukalas.  Year 7 students were also part of the wreath-laying ceremony by laying poppies and wreaths they had made in their History classes.

The focus of this year’s commemoration was the contribution of nurses to Australia’s wartime history. Ever since the first military nurses sailed for the Boer War in South Africa in January 1900,  Australian nurses have served in theatres of war and conflict around the world. They have worked under the most hazardous conditions, endured extreme discomfort in the most harrowing of circumstances and sometimes lost their lives.

As with all ANZAC Day ceremonies there was the inclusion of the Ode, the Last Post, one-minute silence and the Reveille. The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem performed by students - Violeta Bozanic, Edwin Tarawali and Bianca Dempsey.

Every Cecil Hills High School student showed great respect for this most important occasion.
