Autism Awareness Day

We would like to say a massive thank you to all staff. There was a real buzz in the Connect lessons with students developing a better awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

We truly appreciate all of your efforts. We received some excellent feedback from both students and staff.  A special thank you goes out to the teachers who came to the basketball game, especially to Mr Barned, Mr Wilcox and Mr Brookfield for their incredible efforts and immersing our students in the whole point of Autism Awareness Day.

Year 7

Year 7 students from the Support Unit have been involved in numerous activities that are sure to leave them with everlasting memories of the first year at Cecil Hills High School.  A list of the activities include:

  • Swimming Carnival at Prairiewood Leisure Centre,
  • Weekly community access program at Westfield Shopping Centre, Liverpool and at Stockland Mall Shopping Centre,   Wetherill Park
  • Year 7 Camp at Nepean Adventure Centre Douglas Park and
  • Athletics Carnival for students with a disability at Campbelltown Athletics Centre.

During all of these activities, Year 7 students have demonstrated respectful behaviour by following teachers' instructions, responsible behaviour by taking care of their personal belongings and successful behaviour by always following the rules and trying their personal best to succeed at becoming focused learners in their first year at Cecil Hills High School.

I would like to personally congratulate all Year 7 students in the Support Unit for their effort so far this year. Congratulations to Noaha Axford, Abdul Barghachoun, Aaron Chalker, Portia Magallanes, Zaeem Rehman and Jake Van Der Valk.

Discovery Tour

As part of our Food Technology program, students in the Support Unit participated in a Woolworths Discovery Tour at  our local Woolworths store at Cecil Hills Shopping Village.  We were met at the entrance by Mariella and Evan, our guides.  We took a tour of the different fresh foods starting with the meat department and the storerooms,  including walking into the huge freezer and refrigerator rooms .

Students were given the opportunity to touch, smell and feel the fruit and vegetables and for the staff and students who were interested - this tour included fruit and vegetable tasting!

The students thoroughly  enjoyed their excursion.  Thank you to the staff at Woolworths Cecil Hills for making us feel so welcome!

Royal Agricultural Show

Sixteen students from the Support Unit enjoyed an exciting day at the Royal Agricultural Show. They attended the farm section milking a cow, observing how food is grown and patting alpacas. They sampled different fruits and vegetables, honey and bread. They walked around the show and observed the district exhibits, domestic pets and show bag pavilion.

Students were in awe of the variety of dogs in the dog pavilion especially the giant wolfhound and afghan dogs. Excitement at the wood chopping as people cheered on the different statesmen hard at work chopping their logs. We wandered through the craft exhibition and viewed  the fabulous mouth watering cakes,  and we were mesmerised  by the amazing flower display!  Back outside we were entertained by the passing parade of Sponge Bob Square Pants, The Greatest Show on Earth and others.  Into the main area we watched the constabulary put their horses through the routine.  Running out of time we walked through the cattle pavilion and back to our rendezvous point.  A great day was had by all.

NDIS

Parents of students in the Support Unit were invited to attend the information session presented by Chris Drimal Senior Community Engagement Officer and Leanne Park from NDIS  (National Disability Insurance Scheme).  At this session parents had the chance to learn and understand the NDIS access process for their child.  Chris Drimal and Leanne Park also addressed parents’ concerns and provided valuable information about NDIS.. It was a resourceful meeting and parents were able to interact with each other as well as with the presenters from NDIS.
