Fortnightly Tuesday Morning Mass
Edmund Rice’s Spiritual Director was a Jesuit priest and Edmund was a member of a Jesuit parish. We can, therefore, safely assume that Edmund prayed and trained to seek and find God in all things. ‘Finding God in all things’ is a key aspect of Ignatian Spirituality (named after the founder of the Jesuits, St Ignatius of Loyola) and is based on the belief that God can be found in everyone, in every place and in everything.
The Examen is a prayer that aims to make us more aware of God’s presence in our lives. During it we reflect upon our experiences of the day, and ask for the grace to be able to recognise God in them. The Examen (derived from the Latin word for examination) is a spiritual self-review that involves prayerfully recollecting moments during the day and reflecting on how God was present at those times. There are many versions of the Examen, but they all have five basic steps. Here is a simple outline of some key elements. During Tuesday morning’s Mass in the College Chapel, Fr Jim McKeon blessed badges that will be presented at the Leaders Investiture on Thursday. Fr Jim also took the time to discuss the new theme for 2019, which will also be introduced on Thursday.
Please continue praying for the Year 12 students and their families during their HSC exams this week.
Come, Holy Spirit, Divine Creator, true source of light and fountain of wisdom!
Grant all students a penetrating mind to understand, a retentive memory,
and abundant grace in expressing themselves.
Guide the beginning of their work, direct its progress, and bring it to successful completion.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, true God and true man,
living and reigning with You and the Father, forever and ever.
Amen.
Please remember that all students and parents are invited to attend Mass in the College Chapel every second Tuesday at 8:00am. It is a wonderful way to start the day by sharing in the Eucharist with your sons and other members of the College. Students from Mercy College are regular participants and co-contributors to each Mass.
The next Mass will be on Tuesday 13 November.
